Questions, answered

A few things people often ask.

What is a postpartum doula?

A trained caregiver who supports you in the weeks after birth — with recovery, feeding, soothing, and reassurance. Non-medical, practical, and gentle.

How does matching work?

After a short intake, we match you with a nearby doula who fits your needs, schedule, and preferred language. You can message them and schedule visits in the app.

Is my information private?

Yes. We follow strict privacy and security practices. Your details are encrypted and only visible to you, your matched doula, and our care team as needed.

Does insurance or Medicaid cover this?

Coverage varies. During intake we'll collect your insurance information and let you know what may be covered.

How do I become a doula with GentleStart?

Apply through the doula sign-up. You'll complete a credentialing application — certifications, background check, and agreements — and our team reviews it before you receive client requests.
